9 TV Shows I’m Loving

I’ve just finished a great run of binge-watching TV. Here are my favourites:

Money Heist (Netflix) – excellent Spanish thriller, which centres around a seemingly perfect robbery of a printing press. As the robbery proceeds we get flashbacks and glimpses of the lives of each the robbers. Gripping, I’m addicted. By the way watched it with subtitles not the dubbed English voices

The Boys (Amazon) – I couldn’t stop watching the 8-part season (surely season 2 will follow). This subverts the superhero genre by showing them as sleazy, fragile and corrupt. The plot revolves a group of regular people trying to bring the superheroes down.

Succession (Amazon) – a rare drama, where none of the characters are like-able. We see a family trying to side with or usurp the power of the Rupert Murdoch-style media mogul father.

.

Schitt’s Creek (Netflix) – a gem of a comedy, where a rich family are forced to live in some backwater of a town after a financial scandal. Very funny.

.

.

Umbrella Academy (Netflix) – another subversion of the superhero genre. This time, a family of specially talented individuals try to come to terms with  the death of their over-bearing father and the end of the world.

.

Le Mans: Racing Is Everything  (Amazon) – documentary that follows three teams as they compete in this annual 24 hour car race. Worth watching even if you don’t care about cars.

.

Doctor Foster (BBC) – this series came out a few years ago, but is still worth watching. It centres around the divorce of a GP and her husband and the nutty things they do to each other. Keeps you on  the edge of your seat.

.

Hanna (Amazon) – TV version of the film. A genetically enhanced girl raised in the forest is forced into the real world. Great mix of action and drama.

.

.

Line Of Duty (BBC) – clever police drama that follows an internal affairs team. Has it all – great episodic plots and believable characters (ie they don’t all look like models).
